Plantation Shutters: An Overview

The name ‘Plantation Shutters’ derives from the plantations of South America where wooden shutters were used on the outside of properties. Traditionally white to reflect the sun and keep the interior cool. Today, they come in a large range of colours and styles.

Window shutters are made from a frame containing horizontal rails and vertical stiles at the top, middle and bottom. Set within the frame are louvres (slats) that can be angled to control light and airflow. 

The Different Types of Wooden Shutters

• Tire-on-Tier Shutters
  Tire-on-tire shutters are the most versatile shutters you can choose. Both the upper and lower panels can be opened separately enabling greater privacy and light control.

  This means you can fully open the shutters to flood your room with light or tilt the slats on the lower panels for privacy. Or, depending on the time of year, you may want to tilt the top shutters to prevent glare from the sun on televisions or monitors. 

• Full Height Shutters
  Full height shutters provide clean and crisp lines to give a beautiful and elegant finish to any window or door.

  Options include a mid-rail to enable you to control both the slats on the upper and lower panels.

• Tracks & Doors Shutters
  Are your doors letting the rest of your house down? Our tracks and door shutters allow you to spruce up any door...from bi-folding doors or room dividers. Tracked doors slide effortlessly to give you full views of your exterior on bright, sunny days.   
• Solid Shutters
  Inspired by the Victorian era, solid panel shutters offer many benefits including near blackout when closed and adding as an extra barrier to prevent noise reduction and additional insulation. 
• Café Shutters
  A truly stylish option for homeowners with street-facing rooms who are seeking a little privacy.  This style covers just the bottom half of your window, and prevent passers-by peeking in, yet still, allow natural light to flood your room.
• Shaped Shutters

Our plantation shutters are made from premium kiln-dried hardwoods to guarantee longevity and durability. All our shutters come with a 3-year guarantee.

• Hybrawood Shutters®
  Perfect for everyday living. The frames, stiles and rails are produced from quality hardwood with aluminium core polyvinyl slats to resist damage.
• Basswood
  Basswood wooden shutters have a smooth and even grain and are ideal for large windows and doorways.

  Our range of Basswood shutters are FSC® Certified helping you and us to do our bit for the environment.

• Premium Ash Hardwoood
  Ash has a deep grain which provides a sophisticated natural wood finish. It comes in a range of tones.

• Aluminium Core PVC
  We recommend our aluminium PVC range for bathroom and wetrooms where moisture levels are high.  This range is made from 100% polyvinyl. Sats are Aliminium Core PV to provide resistance to damage. This range is painted with high quality and long-lasting PU paint.
