How much does a stable door cost?

Every stable door we fit is made to measure, so there is no single price. The material makes the biggest difference, with uPVC the more affordable option and composite sitting above it.

Beyond that it comes down to the size of the opening, whether the existing frame is being replaced, the glazing you choose and the hardware. A stable door with a glazed top half will cost more than a solid one.

Can the two halves be locked separately?

Yes. A stable door has an independent lock on each leaf, so you can open the top half on its own and leave the bottom half secured. When both halves are closed they lock together as a single door.

Are stable doors secure?

A modern stable door is as secure as a standard back door. Multi point locking runs the full height of the frame and the two halves are bolted to each other when shut, so there is no weak point where they meet.

Are they draughty?

No. The seal between the two halves is the same weather seal used around the rest of the door, so a well fitted stable door is no draughtier than a solid one.

Where do people usually fit them?

Most go on the back of the house, opening onto a garden or a patio, and in kitchens and utility rooms. They suit period properties and cottages, though we fit plenty on modern homes too.
